Turn on the iPod, click "settings," then scroll down to "Sound Check" and make sure it says "on." If it doesn't, click the scroll wheel button once to turn "Sound Check" on.
Settings also can be used to make other useful adjustments. You can turn up the bass, treble or combinations of sound frequencies.
