Reset your iPod

If your iPod is locked up on you, the first thing you should do is make sure the Hold switch isn't locked. A bit obvious you might say, but even the best of us can forget from time to time.

Some people dont understand the distinction between an iPod reset and a restore. With a reset you would lose most of your custom settings. However none of your music, videos etc are lost.

On the other hand, if you run the restore, you will lose everything on the iPod.

If it is locked there will be a small lock icon in the corner of the screen, if you are still unable to get your iPod responding I would suggest a reset.

There are two different ways to do an iPod reset [Identify iPod Model].

To reset Early iPods - The iPod, iPod with Scroll Wheel and iPod with Touch Wheel

Turn the Hold switch on, then turn it off again.

Hold down the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple appears, should take from 6 to 10 seconds.

To Reset Later iPods (The iPod with Click Wheel, iPod photo, and iPod mini)

Turn the Hold switch on, then turn it off again.

Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple appears, should take from 6 to 10 seconds.

If it's still not working.

Connect the iPod to the power adapter. Repeat this step several times before considering a restore. A simple reset is much easier. However if it fails, a restore would be the next option.
