Restore your iPodIf your iPod has locked up and not working properly, I would suggest you consider an ipod reset first. In a iPod reset you would lose most of your custom settings. However none of your music, videos etc are lost. So if you have not tried it already, please try it first. If you run the iPod restore you will lose everything on the iPod. and restores it to its original factory condition. It is also important that you understand the distinction between "update" and "restore." Update iPod only updates the software that controls iPod which may update the firmware for the hard drive. However the Update feature does not affect the songs or videos stored on the iPod. Restoring your iPod erases all of the songs, videos, and files on the iPod, make sure to back up your files first. Restore iPod for Windows XP and 2000 Some iPod models with USB will have to be disconnected from the computer and be attached to the iPod AC Adapter to finish the restore. Other iPod models connecting via USB, including iPod mini, iPod nano and other Second Generation units do not need to be connected to the AC power adapter. 1. Open the iPod Software Updater application. (Start Menu, Progams, iPod Folder) 2. Select iPod Updater showing the most recent date in the filename. 3. Connect your iPod to your PC. 4. Click Restore. 5. An alert box appears to confirm you want to restore iPod. Confirm. 6. After progress bar and the restore process on the computer has finished, close the iPod Updater and check the screen on the iPod. * If there is animage of a wall power plug, you will need to connect your iPod to the AC adapter that came with it and plug it into a wall outlet and wait for the restore to complete. * If you see a progress bar underneath the Apple logo, leave the iPod connected to the computer. * If you had to put iPod into Disk Mode before restoring, the iPod screen may display "OK to Disconnect" and you may need to reset iPod. 7. After the restore is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will ask you to name your iPod and choose your preferences as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time. Congratulations, you have restored your iPod to it's original factory settings.
